NOLS Alaska Mountaineering 2009

When I was 17, I went to Alaska for just over a month during the summer and learned how to mountaineer in the back-country. My trip was through NOLS, the National Outdoor Leadership School.

How I ever convinced my parents to let me do this, I’ll never know.

While I was on my trip, I kept a journal of our daily adventures, and what life was like in the back country. I came across said journal a few days ago, and while reading through it, thought it would be fun to digitize my writing as well as pair it with some of the pictures and videos I took during the trip.

Below are all of my journal entries from 30 days of mountaineering in Alaska. Keep in mind I was 17 when I wrote this, so it’s not the best, but it’s cool to look back on =)

Also note I wasn’t a diagnosed Celiac until a few years later, so lots of gluten eating happens. Towards the end I noted my stomach being upset a lot… but thought it was milk! Ha. You live and you learn!
